Description

SPOILERS, IGNORE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE CLUSTER YET

Edit:
HOLY CRAP I WAS RIGHT ABOUT IT! Hundreds of minds joined in a purpose as a conjunction of fractured selves barely aware of their state or each other, but all knowing something was wrong, speaking in a fractured voice with tiny elements of a whole. I WAS RIGHT!!!

So... uhm

I was talking to a friend, and it suddenly hit me. Do the Gems/shards experience the passage of time inside the bubbles? Me and a real friend discussed this, he expected not as poofed THEN bubbled, you are probably unaware of time passing. I think one might, otherwise why did the Centipetal not instantly try and murderize Steven?

ANYWAY

The Cluster. A thing of horror, a thing of pity. When it appears, it screams in agony as it tries to become... well, you can see it before it glitches.
It doesn't hurt Garnet, it's not pulling her apart. That is Garnet suffering a Heroic Bluescreen of Death in the face of something so personally and philosophically repugnant. I think it was trying to beg for help. I don't know if that means smashing the shards to dust, or untangling them, or maybe just bubbling it for whatever oblivion that may or may not hold.
How much of each Gem remains?

This image was designed to try and capture that scream of agony, and Garnet's reaction. It obviously has enough sentience, even if it's purely physical awareness, to scream. But to recognize someone, to hold and not hurt, that takes a little more. The limb-pairs just flopped about mindlessly. The Cluster, to me, is aware. Both of its surroundings, and of its own nightmareish state.

The text inside the image is designed to be four minds trying to attain one goal. Initially I had one colour asking most of the questions, one with only the italicized moments, and one that was just faded spots. I reworked it so that I didn't have strong lines of following colour, and gave each fragment their own texture. The basic text colour is modelled on the eyes.

When I wrote out the text as I usually do, it didn't feel right. I wanted to try and get the fragmented nature across as thoroughly as possible.

Given all that, this image was born.

For those interested, the original passage looks like this:

I-I-I am/We-I-You? Who?

Am/We? Feel bro-ken. Who are I/you?

Want-want-want

You/who?

I/we/where?

Tem-ple?

I/you/we?

Feel

Crys-tal

We-/-who-/-am-/-me-/-us

Rose?

The cluster is nightmare fuel in itself, being a hastily-glued together monster born from fallen gems, but knowing that it is sentient to some degree makes it even more terrifying. Plus, I swear I could hear the clusters in nightmare hospital saying things like "Rose? Rose, help!"
